Why we pour tea before every massage

Ten minutes, one warm bowl and a few quiet questions. The small ritual that sets the tone for everything after it.

Every visit to Pelusa begins at the tea counter. Before anyone mentions oils or pressure, you sit, hold something warm and take a few slow sips. It is the most important ten minutes of the appointment.

Arriving takes time

Most people arrive with their minds still on the street outside. A warm bowl gives the hands something to do and the breath something to follow. By the third sip, shoulders have usually dropped a centimetre.

We don’t ask how you are when you walk in. We ask after the tea.

What we’re pouring this season

  • Roasted barley with a little orange peel, for grounding.

  • Lemon verbena and chamomile, for evenings.

  • A light sencha for guests heading back to work.

Our therapists use this time to listen, not to interview. What we hear over tea shapes the massage far more than any form ever could.
