Breathing through the 3 pm slump

Before you reach for a second coffee, try two minutes of breath and daylight. It works more often than you’d think.

The mid-afternoon dip is real. Energy falls, focus scatters and the biscuit tin starts calling. Caffeine helps, but it often borrows from the evening.

Two minutes by a window

Stand near natural light. Breathe in through your nose for four counts, out for four, and repeat for one minute. Then spend one more minute breathing normally while looking at something far away.

Daylight and a steady breath are the oldest energy drinks we have.

  • Keep your shoulders soft and your jaw unclenched.

  • If you can, step outside for the second minute.

  • Follow with a glass of water before anything else.

It won’t replace a good night’s sleep, but it might save your afternoon.
